Richard K. Coplon graduated cum laude from Yale College in 1968 and
Harvard Law School in 1972. He was employed as an attorney in New York
City between 1972 and 1976 both in private practice and by the Vera
Institute for Justice, a non-profit organization.
He became associated with this law firm in 1976 and has been a member
of the firm since 1979. Mr. Coplon is admitted to practice in New Jersey
and New York and in the Federal and State Courts in both states. He
is admitted as well to the United States Court of Appeals for the Third
Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Coplon is primarily engaged in general
commercial matters and litigation. He was
one of the members of the firm who prosecuted
the leading New Jersey Supreme Court
case, Brenner v. Berkowitz, 134 N.J. 488
(1993) which deals with shareholder rights
in closely-held corporations and issues of
corporate or minority oppression. He
represented a national brokerage firm in
Stella v. Dean Witter Reynolds, 241 N.J.
Super 55 (App. Div. 1990), a case that
addressed the applicability of the New
Jersey Consumer Fraud Act to the sale of
securities and dealt with banks' obligations
on forged endorsements. He has represented
both plaintiff and defendants in class actions
, including matters involving pension rights
under ERISA and antitrust matters. He has
extensive experience in construction
litigation representing subcontractors and
general contractors on numerous of issues
relating to performance and payment.
Mr. Coplon has a broad range of experience
in family law matters including, custody,
divorce and actions involving modifications
and enforcements of agreements.
