Richard D. Shapiro practices in the areas of complex commercial litigation, environmental litigation, federal securities litigation, white collar criminal defense and labor-management relations. He is a 1966 graduate of Clark University and a 1969 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and editor-in-chief of the Tennessee Law Review.

After law school, Mr. Shapiro was law clerk to the Chief Judge Frank W. Wilson of the United States District Court, Eastern District of Tennessee. Mr. Shapiro then served as Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey in 1971-77. From 1974 to 1977, Mr. Shapiro was Chief of Special Prosecutions at the United States Attorney's Office. He received a special commendation from the United States Department of Justice in 1975 and the Director's Award for Superior Performance from the United States Department of Justice in 1976.

In 2001-2002, Mr. Shapiro was President of the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey. He has been a member of the Lawyers Advisory Committee of the United States District Court District for the District of New Jersey, as well as Chairman of the Israel Commission of United Jewish Federation of Metrowest. He also has served on the Community Relations Committee of United Jewish Communities of Metrowest and the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Vocational Service of Metrowest.

Mr. Shapiro is a member of the Bars of New Jersey, New York, Tennessee, the federal trial and appellate courts in those states and the United States Court for Berlin.
